- Item: FW241 *NEW*
- Description: Cotton Rock Celt - Here is a nice Celt that has been mostly polished over. It is made of "Cotton Rock". This material is called "Cotton Rock" because of its light weight compared to it's mass. When prehistoric man pecked and ground this material into shape, it was a much heavier stone. However, over the years that it laid buried in the ground, it's weight "leaches" out. The result is that it becomes, in varying degrees, much lighter than it was originally. Because of it's lack of heft, modern agricultural methods really reek havoc on artifacts made of this material. It was found in Madison County, Kentucky. Ex- Monty & Jewdy Pennington

( I took and loaded one set of photos of the point just the was it was when I got it, then realized that there was still a lot of dirt on the point ...... so I washed it with a tooth brush and re-took as set of photos. I decided that this made a good comparison study of what "original" dirt deposits look like on a piece that has just been rubbed off, so I left both sets of photos. ) Monty

- Description: Knox Chert Woodland 3 Notch - This unusual piece was found in Middle Tennessee by Katylina Threet in July 2004. I am not sure what to call it. It has 3 notches. One in either side and one in the base. It is made a pitted high grade Knox Chert. It has nice mineral deposits. There is NO grinding at all which leads me to believe it is probably a Woodland or Mississippian piece. If you know the Typology of this piece, drop me a line. Monty
