The basal end was anciently damaged or may have been made that way. It has a large strike along the back and is worked down to the edges from that. I am not sure of the material. Description: Carter Cave Chert Paleo Uni-face Knife - This is Absolutely the finest Paleo Knife that we have ever offered for sale. It is made of Carter Cave Chert and is totally uni-face on one side. It has a nice curve along the length of the blade all the way to the tip. It was created with 3 long strikes to the back before or after it was struck from the core. The remainder of one of those strikes can be seen at the back of the edge that was used the most and has been re-sharpened several times. (see photos) Another can be seen on the other edge of the same side extending back from the tip about 3 inches. The 3rd can be seen in evidence along the top of the median ridge that was created from the one edge being re-sharpened. (see photos) Along the basal end, you can see the large parallel percussion flakes extending across the blade from the blade edges where it was thinned. This fine Paleo Uni-face Knife was found in Bath County, KY by Joey Fairbanks along
an extended ridge off the Licking River Basin that has produced many Paleo's. From our personal collection.
