Description: Super Large Boyle Chert Nodena Form -
This Fine example of a Nodena knife measures over 4 1/4 inches in
length. It is made of Fossilifferous Boyle Chert. It was
found in Estill County, Kentucky. It has excellent symmetry.
It is both thin and well flaked. The Nodena typology was used by
the Quapaw Indians. It comes with a Tom Davis COA grading it a
G-10. Ex- Monty & Jewdy Pennington

and flaking. It has a well made and well shaped base. Mr. William Stafford passed away in 1974 and the news print that this collection was wrapped in was dated in the early 1980's. I would grade this

these to be unfinished Clay Gorgets. The Caddo peoples DID make
and engrave clay gorgets and most were then drilled for suspension.
As this one appears to have Ochre staining, they may also have been
shallow paint pallets. Others suggest Water bottle caps, but I do
not think that the "cupped" design would have been necessary for this.

- Description: VERY Colorful Tennessee Jacks Reef - Here is a very nice Jacks Reef Point that was found in Savannah, Tennessee in Hardin County. It is made of a colorful material that I think might be Buffalo River Chert. It has a nice tip and good symmetry. It is thin and has very nice notches worked from the corners. It has a Very nice base that is worked upwards near the outside tips. (see photos) This Piece is from the John Gibson Collection of Madison County, KY. John has been an avid hunter and collector of Prehistoric Artifacts for many years. He is a good friend and one of the founding members of the Appalachian Foothills Artifact Collectors Association. It has one ear anciently dinged that kept it from being a grade higher. This piece is from the collection of John & Robert Stathem of Shreveport, Louisiana. Robert and his father John hunted artifacts in Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. It comes with a Tom Davis COA grading it a G-9.
