8 or 10 county area in Central Kentucky where there is found a type that
looks like it is in between a Lost Lake and a Dovetail. This is
one of those pieces. ItI would rate this nice piece around a G-7 or G-8 with an
tiny ancient tip ding that does not hurt it at all. It is very near 1st stage having had only a couple of re-sharpenings. The base on this one is
REALLY WELL ground! Made of Kentucky Hornstone with half a "bulls eye" in one side. (see photos). Found near
Drowning Creek, in Estill County, KY. Ex-Monty Pennington.

Almost Classic Buck Creek form. This piece is from the collection of Mr. Chan Strader of Athens, Kentucky. Chan dug, surface hunted, and collected artifacts all around the Central Kentucky area. Mr. Strader passed away over 20 years ago and left his collection to his cousin, Bobby Dodd, who donated the major portion to the University of Kentucky. - Description: Southern Pickwick - The best that I can determine this is a Pickwick from somewhere WAY south of here. The material looks as if it may be coral or something. It has a translucent amber colored material mixed in with a denser tan that appears to have deposits much like what I used to see on bottles what I recovered from the ocean bottom. (see photos). It has near PERFECT symmetry and great barbed ears and a well shaped base. Both blade edges are serrated up to a fine tip. One side is pretty much median ridged. (see photos). I got this piece in a collection from a guy that traveled in his work. If you know the material, please let me know. Ex- Monty Pennington

- Description: KY Carter Chert Palmer or Pine Tree - It was found in Madison County, KY. I obtained this piece from "BIG" Jerry Jones in 2004. It is made of a variety of Carter Chert. This piece has excellent color, nice symmetry and a fine tip. It is serrated down both blade edges. It is beveled on all 4 blade edges which leads me to place the typology as either a Palmer or a Pine Tree. The flaking leans me more towards Palmer. Both ears have ancient dings.
